Vietnam is a small and beautiful country in South East Asia. Cultural ties between Vietnam and India are quite old. 1100 Year Old Shivling Found in Vietnam The artworks of Buddhism and Hinduism dating from the fourth to the 13th century have been found before. Recently a huge Shivling of sandstone has been found in Vietnam in excavation. The information about the meeting of this Shivling has been shared by the External Affairs Minister of India S Jaishankar on his official Twitter handle with the pictures.
Shivaling found in the Temple Premises
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) found a 9th-century Shivling during the excavation of a conservation project last Wednesday. This Shivling is of sandstone and has not suffered any damage. The Shivalinga has been found during ASI’s excavation of the My Son temple complex in Vietnam.

Praising ASI on the discovery, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar wrote on his official Twitter handle that the 9th century monolithic sandstone Shivalinga is the latest discovery of a conservation project ongoing in Vietnam’s May Sun Temple complex. Congratulations to the ASI team.
Who Build it – Champa Kings Built
The External Affairs Minister also recalled his visit to this sanctuary in 2011 by tweeting photos of the excavations. In another tweet, he described the discovery as a great cultural example of India’s development partnership. Let us tell you that many sculptures and artifacts have been found before this temple complex, among which the wedding artwork and carved Shivling of Lord Rama and Sita are prominent.
The 9th-century fully intact Shivling is part of a complex of Hindu temples which were constructed by the Champa Empire between 4th century CE and 13th century CE in My Son sanctuary, in Quảng Nam province, central Vietnam.
